I love these little gardens that bloom the sidewalks of our cities. Still rare in France, they are part of the landscape in Spain, Italy in Canada or in the Scandinavian countries. But the cities multiply the initiatives to develop this vegetation also acclaimed by city dwellers having no garden , terrace or balcony …
Flowering instructions for use!
This is the case in Bordeaux in Gironde where the town hall has developed a guide to support the realization of the flowering sidewalks by locals. This initiative gives residents the opportunity to have a planting pit 15 cm wide (from the façade) and at depth. The land and seedlings (or seedlings) are even provided for the first planting! And if the realization of a pit is impossible, permission is given to install bins on the sidewalk , to the extent that it is not a nuisance for passersby. For information this guide is available from the town halls.
The experiment was even carried out even further with the creation of a garden street in a district of Bordeaux (rue Kléber). It aims to improve living conditions in a crowded and busy street. Discover the experience of this garden street in pictures here . I admit that it is rather convincing!
A desire for a garden to satisfy
I hope that this kind of initiative will snowball and that the desire for garden and greenery of urban (and other) will be increasingly expressed on the sidewalks of our cities . In addition, everyone will have the feeling of participating in the return of nature to the city. Admit that the cityscape will be more attractive if everyone can bloom on the doorstep . And what a nice way to welcome visitors!
