Transforming bare trees into decorative trees , that would put a little cheerfulness in the gardens in winter ! As I looked through the window at the leafless shrubs of my little garden, I decided to look for ways to do it. This is how I discovered the initiatives of several artists in this area. I admit that they are beautiful sources of inspiration to sublimate simple shrubs and make real decorative trees and even works of art!
Decorative trees dressed for winter
One of the simple and fun ways to create decorative trees is to dress them in the literal sense of the word.
You can thus be inspired by ” Yarn Bombing “, an artistic movement born in the United States and landed in France afterwards. It’s about covering urban public space with knitted wool! This art form applied to trees can be a surprise in our gardens. Trunk or branches covered with knit bands , branches dotted with knitted butterflies, everything is imaginable. At your needles!
Even simpler to implement, creating decorative trees through ribbons or strips of fabric . Beautiful source of inspiration, the staging performed for the Festival of Jardins d’Appeltern in the Netherlands. On this occasion, the trunks of young trees were swaddled with colored ribbons and connected together by matching ropes. A decor full of poetry to reproduce in his little garden !
In the same spirit, the ” Delirious Garden ” located in Auvergne, in which the trees were wrapped in red fabric by Michèle Dallon , textile artist and gardener. Easy to adapt to create shrubs and decorative trees and animate the winter landscape!
Coloring decorative trees
Well-dressed trees are good, but painted trees are not bad either! For example, this garden scene animated with funny blue characters. It is in fact tree branches painted by an Australian artist at the Festival des Jardins de Chaumont sur Loire . Imagine the effect in your outdoor space a little sad!
Even more spectacular is the coloring of trunks and tree branches by the artist Konstantin Dimopoulos with the aim of raising public awareness of deforestation. The beautiful bright blue color is obtained from an ephemeral pigmented water safe for plants. It would be necessary to have the recipe to be able to apply the same treatment and thus to create decorative trees during a season!
Decorative and decorated trees
Different approach but just as poetic as that of decorating trees and shrubs in an original way. Like the achievements of Alexandra Caron for example. This mosaic artist has used his art to cover a tree trunk with magnificent ceramics . But such a transformation is not within the reach of everyone!
In the field of artistic works, others may be easier to adapt. That of Studio Perrot for example who has imagined an ” air garden ” as part of the Jardins Jardin . In the middle of it stands a tree whose leaves are in mother-of-pearl. In a more accessible version, trees or shrubs can be decorated with golden cardboard garlands as foliage !
